Neurological Testing: 3 Advanced Tests with an Encinitas Chiropractor to Assess Your Neurological Function

What gets measured improves.

At our chiropractic office, we do neurological testing using a tool called the INSiGHT neuroTECH. It combines three neurological scanning technologies to evaluate how your nervous system is functioning.

Using the INSiGHT, we perform three tests:

The 3 INSiGHT neuroTECH Scans

1. nueroPULSE: This test measures Heart Rate Variability (HRV). HRV shows your body's ability to adapt to stressors in its environment. This primarily looks at your sympathetic/parasympathetic balance, also know as your "fight or flight" system.

Factors that negatively affect your Heart Rate Variability include physical, chemical and emotional stress.

A decrease in HRV is associated with poor health and decreased adaptability. Chiropractic adjustments have a positive effect on Heart Rate Variability and help the body better adapt.

2. nueroCORE :Electromyography (EMG): We take readings at each part of your spine, from just below your ears all the way down your lower back. The results of this test show areas where your body is working too hard, not hard enough or is out of balance.

The results on this test are a measure of your muscle tone and balance. It evaluates how well your nerves and muscles that support and move your spine are functioning.

Daily stress can cause these muscles to lose their support and mobility. As you continue under chiropractic care, we can track your progress as your nervous system improves and  gains control.

3. nueroTHERMAL: The third tool in our neurological testing toolkit is a thermal scanner with two infrared sensors. These sensors take hundreds of readings per second, analyzing the body's ability to regulate temperature.

This test measures the body's ability to control your organs, glands, and blood vessels. There is a strong relationship between temperature, where stress is building, and how deeply it affects your bodily functions.

Using this test we can detect areas of acute nerve interference and use this information to administer care.

All three of these tests are combined into one easy-to-read report that we review in the Doctor's Report of Findings.

When you come to your appointment to receive your report, you'll receive something that looks like the image you see here. The doctor will review the scores of each one of these tests, and discuss how each component is positively or negatively affecting your potential. Don't be surprised if the doctor uncovers a condition you forgot to mention based on how he's able to read your report!

Since we only feel about 10% of what's happening in our bodies, neurological testing gives us insight into the 90% of what we don't feel and how that part of our nervous system is functioning.

Why Our Chiropractic Office is Different

The use of instrumentation is essential to observe your current neurological function, which allows for a deeper, objective level of understanding so that we can advise you of where you currently are, how we can make improvements, and the best way to address ongoing challenges.

So, what exactly are the tests looking for?

The simple answer is adaptability. We can look at how your body is innately adapting to stress and visually get answers to the following:

- Can the body use motor nerve signals to keep the right muscle tone and balance?

- Can the blood vessels, organs and glands regulate effortlessly when at rest?

- Have the combined effects of daily stress accumulated so that there’s not enough physical reserves to keep you healthy?

Over time, vertebral subluxations emerge as part of the body’s inability to adapt successfully. We can quantify what areas of your spine and spinal nerves are subluxated and to what extent these subluxations have affected your internal processing.

When we observe our patients under chiropractic care, an incredible array of changes occur at the neurofunctional level.

- The overall balance and capacity of their autonomic nervous system improves.

- They spend much less energy (motor-neural activity) to maintain their postures.

- They move with greater freedom and efficiency.

- The organs and glands operate with greater control when the regional autonomic nerve centers function more efficiently.

- They learn, think and socialize at an accelerated pace as they process their environment more completely and with greater ease.

Three Parts of Your
Nervous System

A lot of people think that if they look and feel good, then they must be in optimal health. If only that were the case!

What most people don't realize is that our nervous system is actually three systems in one!

1. Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) - This part of the nervous system controls the bodily functions we don't think about, like our heart beat, breathing, digestion, etc. Think of it like your "automatic" nervous system.

2. Motor Nervous System - This is voluntary and involuntary control of muscles and movement.

3. Sensory Nervous System - You have seven senses . The five that most people are familiar with are; sight, hearing, touch, taste, and feel. The two that most often get overlooked are vestibular and proprioception.

The primary five senses Sensory Nervous System is the only part of our nervous system that we are constantly aware of!

Neurological Testing Measures the Body's Ability to Adapt

Your ability to adapt directly correlates to the degree and ease of your central neural function. In only a few minutes, an overview of your neural functional, postural and regulatory status can be measured and graphed. These essential images and scores confirm, to you and the the doctor, how vertebral subluxations are involved so that an objective care plan can be prepared and progress can be tracked at all stages.

When subluxations are identified and adjusted by a chiropractor, the adaptive response is awakened and the intelligence of the body begins to reorganize itself towards a more efficient and creative state.  Using reliable and validated instruments such as neurological testing to track this allows us to help you to reach your true potential.

"

Understanding the combined connection between our structure/posture, our nervous system, and our ability to adapt, is why chiropractic exists! Through a thorough neurofunctional and structural examination we gain amazing insight into how you will succeed under care.

Chiropractic is the science, art and philosophy of optimal health and wellness. It was said by BJ Palmer that “Medicine is the study of disease and what causes a man to die. Chiropractic is the study of health and what causes a man to live.”

Chiropractic recognizes that the human body has the innate ability to heal itself. In order for the body to recognize challenges and to properly self heal, the brain and nervous system must be able to properly perceive what is going on in the body. When areas of the spine become misaligned and stuck, the brain is unable to properly sense what is going on and therefore can not send the proper messages back out to the body. This breakdown in communication interferes with the bodies natural self healing capabilities and is perceived as stress that activates our sympathetic (fight or flight) response of our nervous system. Constant activation of this system puts our bodies in a state of protection and survival instead of the normal default of growth, development, and healing.

Chiropractors identify the areas of the spine that are misaligned and stuck that are causing interference in the bodies ability to self heal and function properly . Once these areas are identified, they can be gently corrected through specific chiropractic adjustments. Once these areas of the spine are corrected the body is no longer in a state of survival and protection and it is able to put its resources into normal growth, healing and development.
